A Self-PortraitTM Profile: As the first step of LearningSuccess, you must develop a greater self-awareness of how you learn and interact with new learning situations. All sessions begin by completing A Self-Portrait Learning Style Profile (for students in an educational setting) or A Self-Portrait Personal Success Profile (for adults in a professional setting). The computer-assisted inventory asks a set of questions about prior learning or work experiences and encourages reflection about interests and preferred learning or work environments. The program then analyzes the answers and generates a profile summarizing your approach toward new learning situations (Personal Dispositions), unique gifts or intelligences (Talents), and intake of information (Modalities).
Our profiles stand apart from other self-administered assessment tools because they collect information about five dimensions: personality, talents, modalities, interests, and environment. This multi-dimensional approach reveals the nuances of your learning style better than any one-dimensional tool. In addition, the profiles are straight-forward and user-friendly providing immediate feedback. The profiles captures your unique style by focusing on your strengths and provides information on how you interact with new situations while learning or working. And most importantly, the profiles lay a foundation for self-understanding and opens up communication about how you learn or work between yourself and others.

If you are a parent seeking coaching for a child, I require profiles for each parent as well, or at least for the parent who oversees homework time or teaches within a homeschooling setting. To maximize the benefits of the profile, I highly recommend an In-Depth Profile Discussion.
LearningSuccess with Grace Tutoring: These sessions are for students who need assistance in elementary and middle school math, high school math, language arts (includes, spelling, reading, writing, comprehensive/critical thinking), who are interested in learning about chemistry, or who need coaching for a science fair project. Study skills coaching also available. As a team, we design a strategy based on LearningSuccessTM principles, and I personally work with the student on a regular basis. Profile for student required. In-depth profile discussion optional.
In-Depth Profile Discussion: This session discusses the findings and implications of the profile in depth. A consultation typically lasts two hours. The purpose of the consultation is to understand and validate how you approach learning. For example, the profile may show that you are a person who prefers to work in groups when learning new material (Personal Disposition), has a natural ability for numbers (Talent), and who processes information by hearing yourself speak (Modality). These findings suggest that you may prefer, and that it is vital for you, to work in groups when studying math. And more importantly, the process of listening to yourself speak by explaining the assignment to others will aid in the retention of the material you are learning. Discovering how your Personal Dispositions, Talents and Modalities interact, provides new knowledge and increases your understanding of how you interact with new learning situations in an academic or professional setting. Customized tips and tools are provided for the educational or professional setting.
In most cases, it also sheds light on personal interactions with others. You may find out that you learn better through print, but your child is musical and a hands-on learner. In this case, flashcards for multiplication facts will not work for your child no matter how much effort is expended. It may have worked for you, but it won’t work for your child. It may explain the frustration between you and your child during homework time. Understanding your child's learning style, as well as your own, opens up communication and a door to creative problem solving.
In all discussions, you will gain a greater understanding of how to use your unique strengths to your benefit and to creatively overcome obstacles in your path toward LearningSuccessTM.
In some cases, more time is needed to address specific issues. I offer the following sessions to focus on specific needs for clients seeking additional guidance after the In-Depth Profile Discussion.
Homework Study Plan: This session is designed for parents who want to help their child with homework in a more effective manner. Provided that there are no major difficulties in particular areas of study, this package is useful for creating a team approach focused on helping your child during homework time. The session focuses on understanding not only the child’s strengths and areas needing improvement, but also those of the parents. This understanding is the foundation for developing techniques that work, or for adapting, or even discarding, techniques that don’t work. Techniques are designed specifically for the unique child-parent interaction occurring during homework time.
Schooling Decisions: This session provides information for parents who are looking into charter, private or alternative schooling. Consultation focuses on discovering the needs of parents associated with choosing the “best” school for their child, as well as the child’s own needs with the goal of finding a school that is a good match for both the child and the family.
Learning Differences: If your child has been diagnosed with a learning disability or a parent is looking for an alternative method of addressing difficulties in a classroom, this session may change the way you look at the situation and offer solutions. This session provides a different lens through which to look at a child. Instead of looking for deficiencies, we will focus on the strengths of your child. We will look at how your child can overcome difficulties by utilizing his or her talents, dispositions, and modalities.
Career Decisions This session is intended for high school and college students, as well as for mothers returning to the workforce. The profile is used to gain insight into strengths, talents, and passions useful in selecting an academic or professional path.
Curriculum Design plus Homeschool Coaching: These sessions are specifically tailored for homeschooling families. As a team, we design a curriculum based on LearningSuccess principles. Additional coaching support beyond the design process throughout the year is available. Either the parent or myself work directly with the child.
